Simple reading of Scripture leads us to a life of thanksgiving. Simple relationship with God fills us with thanksgiving. Who among us has not sung or memorized the psalmist’s entry level approach to God: Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name (Psalm 100:4). Perhaps thanksgiving and praise are so intertwined that we cannot separate them. Perhaps thanksgiving unlocks additional doors of God’s blessing. Listen again to the Psalms: 50:23 He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and He prepares the way so that I may show Him the salvation of God.

God works so powerfully in our lives that, regardless of the circumstances we experience, we can be grateful people. The circumstances will not be the source of our gratitude; our God and our response to Him fuels thanks. Paul clarifies that in an often misinterpreted passage: …give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1Thessalonians 5:18).

Father – Help us to be thankful children, always walking in paths that praise You! Amen.
